Position title: Service Desk Consultant
 
Location:  Stittsville, Ontario
 
Duration: 6 months to start could become permanent
 
 
Education/Certifications Required.
  • Post secondary education in a computer science related program (Diploma or BSc) and or a minimum 3-5 years experience acting in an Systems Manager capacity to provide technical support for hardware and software applications used in a Microsoft environment.
 
 
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience -- hardware/software -- configuration and installation procedures. (Application level mandatory)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server 2003/2008 and XP environments. (Application level mandatory)
  • Candidates must have technical knowledge of firewalls, VPNs and general communications network expertise. (Application level mandatory)
  • Be able to work under pressure from customer to resolve problems. (Mastery level mandatory)
  • Be able to write clear and precise updates to trouble tickets describing how problem are defined and resolved. (Mastery level mandatory)
  • Excellent verbal communications skills (English/French). (Mastery level mandatory)
  • Flexible work hours. Candidate must agree to work early or late shifts, based on the business need.
  • Pager support. Candidate must agree to periodically carry a pager for after-hours support, as part of a larger rotating pool of pager resources (pager hours and after-hours support are compensated responsibilities).
    • Candidate must have high-speed internet access maintained at the candidate‚Äôs own cost, to adequately support secured, remote access for after-hours pager activity as needed.
 
 
Optional Skill Set:
  • Technical knowledge of Internet Protocols, firewalls, VPNs and general communications network expertise would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools (eg. Clearcase) would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows-based servers operating in a clustered environment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in Public Safety environments would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Oracle databases would be considered an asset.
